Over 200 Buffaloes killed in Landhi fire

Report in DAWN:

KARACHI, March 20: More than 200 buffaloes were killed on Thursday when a fire swept through wooden sheds at a farm in Cattle Colony in Landhi. According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted at around 3.30pm when one of the farms in the colony caught fire from the smoldering dung cakes and straws burnt to repel insects particularly Tsetse flies known among the farmers as sea flies.

Wildlife department told to halt import of big cats

KARACHI, March 18: The federal government has advised the Sindh government not to process any request for the import of big cats - lions and tigers - belonging to the endangered species, it has been reliably learned. Sources said that the federal environment ministry took the decision as the Sindh Wildlife Department was delaying the matter of taking punitive action against the wildlife traffickers who had brought big cats from Africa and Europe in the country last year.

Cockfights KARACHI, March 3: Mutilated bodies of specially bred roosters lie unattended on the ground. The piece of land, partly covered by a marquee in Mowach Goth, has been the venue of a blood-curdling cockfight. Jubilant lovers of the outlawed sport, some accompanied by visibly shaken children, leave in twos and threes. The show has ended for the day.
