Narated By Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “While a man was walking on a road. he became very thirsty. Then he came across a well, got down into it, drank (of its water) and then came out. Meanwhile he saw a dog panting and licking mud because of excessive thirst. The man said to himself “This dog is suffering from the same state of thirst as I did.” So he went down the well (again) and filled his shoe (with water) and held it in his mouth and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for that deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?” He said, “(Yes) There is a reward for serving any animate (living being).” – [Bukhari Vol. 8, Book 73, #38] & [Muslim Book 26, Chapter 39, # 5577]

Umair, thanks for sharing.
Ahud, that’s a great book. It’s by Fakhar Abbas, who is the World Society for the Protection of Animals’ (WSPA) representative in Pakistan. He is also the founder of the Pakistan Bioresource Research Centre (http://pbrc.edu.pk/).
Mansoor, sounds like a great project. You may want to contact WWF for more information about Hanguls.
I would like to ask about animal rights in Paklistan.
I used to visit my collegue Shahabuddin who lives in F.B.Area from the last ten years.
He is very fond of pigeons and has a cage on roof top. What I always noticed that he never open the door of cage to let pigeons out in open area. I always felt so pity for pets and ask Shahabuddin several times to take good care of pets and admonish him fear from God and animal rights activist, but he always ignore me.
Now my question is that what should |I do, is anyone here to help those innocent pigeons who are in state of pain.
Yawar, talk to him about it again, and try to convince him to do the right thing. Maybe get another pigeon enthusiast to convince him? Many people keep pigeons and let them out regularly to fly about. You can also show him this link here: http://pawspakistan.org/photos/islamic-teachings-on-animal-welfare/
Hope that helps.
Also, please do join our facebook page and post your query there too – perhaps someone would be able to help you out: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pakistan-Animal-Welfare-Society-PAWS/63595523592
MO thanxx for reply. I will talk to Shahabuddin again and will find out pigeon enthusiast to convince him to refrain from confine the tongueless animals.
But what if he ignore again and not pay attention? and is there any law to support poor pigeons and take action against Shahabuddin?
I confirm my support in this cause.
Well, it’s up to you to convince your friend. We do have cruelty laws (http://www.scribd.com/doc/975982/Pakistan-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-Act-1890) but they are outdated and not implemented. Countless people keep dogs chained up too for 24 hours a day for days on end, and birds in tiny cages, but in a country like Pakistan there’s nothing much one can do about it in terms of the law. Even in the US, just now some laws have been passed in some states against such endless chaining and confinement. Try to reason with your friend about doing what is best for the pigeons, and do keep us posted.
