29 permits issued to Gulf states royal families for houbara bustard hunting

Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 7.04.20 pmKARACHI: The federal government has issued at least 29 special permits to royal family members of the Gulf states — the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, online the United Arab Emirates, thumb Qatar and the Kingdom of Bahrain — for hunting the internationally protected houbara bustard in Pakistan, it emerged on Saturday.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court issues notices to respondents on landmark petition for enforcement of all laws relating to turtles and tortoises

Karachi: Pakistan Animal Welfare Society and others have filed a petition in the Sindh High Court for the enforcement of all laws relating to turtles and tortoises in Pakistan as well as the international treaties signed on their behalf. There was a preliminary hearing today regarding this petition which was heard by the divisional bench of the court comprising of two judges headed by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. Pakistan contacts Thailand for information on turtle seizure

Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 4.46.58 pmKARACHI: Pakistan has requested CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)-Management Authority of Thailand to provide details on seizures of turtles and tortoises that have been made over the past few years which according to press reports were smuggled out of Pakistan, patient sources told Dawn on Sunday.
